Fish Pakoras

Crispy succulent fish pakoras, perfect for an afternoon snack

Ingredients
  

  • 1 litre vegetable oil
  • 500 grams cod, skinned and cut into square bite size pieces any white fish can be used
  • 100 grams gram flour, sieved
  • 1 tsp garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp ginger, finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp chilli powder to taste
  • 2 green chillies, finely chopped
  • 1.5 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ajwain
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tbsp coriander seeds, ground with mortar and pestle
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 5-6 tbsp fresh coriander, finely cut
  • 125 ml water

Instructions
 

  • Add all the ingredients into a bowl, except for the fish, oil and water and mix through.

  • Then add the water slowly, mix into a paste.

  • Next add the fish and marinate in the batter for at least 15 minutes.
  • Heat the oil in a wok, make sure the oil is very hot. Then add the marinated fish and fry for 6-8 minutes until golden brown.

  • Remove the fish pakoras from the oil and drain on a plate covered with kitchen paper roll. Then serve with chutney and enjoy!

Notes

You can always use whole fish fillets and marinate with this batter.
Shallow fry the fillets instead of deep frying.
They will need 3-4 minutes on a medium heat on each side of the fillet to ensure it's cooked through fully.
