Easy Lamb Mince Puff Pastry Pie Recipe: Savoury Homemade Delight

- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 500 grams lamb mince mutton, chicken or beef mince will also work well
- 1 tsp salt
- 0.5 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp red chilli flakes
- 1 tsp garlic, finely chopped
- 1 tsp ginger, finely chopped
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 0.5 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tbsp fresh coriander, finely chopped
- 2 puff pastry sheets, pre rolled
- 3-4 handfuls of grated cheddar cheese
- 1 egg beaten
- 0.5 tsp nigella seeds (kalongi)
- 0.5 tsp sesame seeds
Heat the oil in a pan, add the mince lamb, garlic, ginger, salt, black pepper, red chilli flakes and Worcestershire sauce and brown the mince. Make sure no lumps forms as the mince cooks through.
Once cooked, put the mince into a bowl to cool (pour off any meat juices and excess oil).
Once the mince has cooled down, add the fresh coriander and onion. Stir through.
Un roll the puff pastry sheet and cut one inch diagonal upward lines on either side of the sheet, be sure to leave a 2 inch centre section which is uncut. This will be where the mince lamb mixture will be placed
Put the mince on the middle uncut section, cover with grated cheese and then fold over the diagonal puff pasty strips one at a time form alternating sides to form a plaited top. It doesn't need to be perfect, and a few gaps here and there won't make a difference as when the puff pastry cooks, those gaps will be filled. Brush the puff pastry with egg wash, and then sprinkle over the nigella seeds and sesame seeds.
Bake in the oven on 180C for 30 minutes, or until it's golden brown.
Serve immediately, cut into slices and enjoy.
