Health Benefits of Pomegranate Chutney

Pomegranate is not just a delicious fruit; it’s a powerhouse of nutrients and antioxidants that offer a wide range of health benefits. Known as a “superfood,” pomegranates have been cherished for centuries in traditional medicine for their healing properties.

Packed with vitamin C, pomegranates help strengthen the immune system, making the body more resilient against infections and illnesses.

Pomegranates have strong anti-inflammatory effects due to their high levels of antioxidants. Regular consumption may help reduce inflammation, which is linked to conditions like arthritis, diabetes, and obesity.

Chutneys are often paired with meals to enhance digestion, and pomegranate chutney is no exception. It contains dietary fibre from the seeds, which promotes gut health and prevents constipation.

How to make this Pomegranate Chutney

So how do you make this chutney, it’s so easy! To make this easy chutney recipe, you literally need a handful of ingredients that you put into a food processor and blitz until you have a smooth consistency.

I do have a slight obsession for garlic in my chutneys, you can see this is in my mint and coriander chutney. The garlic gives this sweet and tangy chutney a subtle heat and added depth of flavour. I definitely would not miss this ingredient out when making this dip.

Tips and Variations

I do find that making this chutney and leaving it in the fridge overnight amplifies the flavour. When entertaining, this is ideal as you can prepare it the night before and have less things to make on the actual day. If entertaining, I would definitely recommend you do not omit the garnish of pomegranate seeds. That flash of vibrant pink against the greenish pinkish hue of the yoghurt chutney looks even more enticing. It becomes a little show stopper in itself! You could also add in some sprigs of mint leaves for a further garnishing touch.

I tend not to put green chillies generally in my chutneys as the kids prefer it without, it’s entirely up to you. Depends how much of a kick you want! If you feel the chutney is a bit thick, add a a couple of milk or water tablespoons to loosen it. You can re blitz in the food processor or mix it by hand. Either way you will have a lovely healthy sweet and tangy chutney.

Serving Suggestions

Pomegranate chutney is a great Pakistani starter chutney. Not surprisingly, this Pakistani chutney goes great with Pakistani starters, in particular lamb chops, spring rolls and chapli kebabs. It keeps very well in the fridge for a few days in an air tight container. As you can see from the picture below, whenever I make chapli kebabs, I always make this healthy pomegranate dip.
